Swim Team Enjoys Success at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. -  The Bethel University Swim Team had a record-breaking weekend in Sewanee in the 10th Igloo Invitational at Sewanee, Tennessee this past weekend.  The Bethel University Men's and Women's Swim Team competed against Campbellsville University (KY), Piedmont University (GA), UT Southern (TN), and the University of the South (TN).  Both the men's and women's teams had outstanding performances with Jakub Loboda setting a new meet and pool record in the 100 Yard Butterfly, and numerous swimmers finishing in their best times to date.

 On the men's side, Jakub Loboda swam a 49.76 in the 100 Yard Butterfly Preliminaries, breaking the previous meet record (49.98) and pool record (49.87).  He finished 2nd in the 100 Fly Finals.  Loboda also took 1st in the 100 Breast, and 1st in the 50 Free swimming a 21.34 (meet record is 21.22), and also swam in all five relay events.  Artem Dzun took 1st in the 200 and 100 Fly (swimming his personal best time in both events), and 4th in the 50 Free.  Martin Sener was 2nd in the 100 Backstroke (swimming his personal best time), 4th in the 200 Backstroke, and 12th in the 50 Free (and swam in all 5 relay events).  Eric Edwards took 3rd in the 200 IM, 3rd in the 100 Free, and 5th in the 200 Breast (he also swam in all 5 relay events).  Akram Nejjar finished 4th in the 1650 Free, and Adam Peeden finished 12th in the 100 Free and 20th in the 50 Free.  The men's relay teams finished 2nd in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (Edwards, Sener, Dzun, Loboda), 4th in the 400 Medley Relay (Sener, Edwards, Dzun, Loboda), 6th in the 800 Freestyle Relay (Edwards, Loboda, Peeden, Sener), 3rd in the 200 Medley Relay (Sener, Edwards, Dzun, Loboda), and 3rd in the 400 Yard Free Relay (Sener, Edwards, Peeden, and and Loboda).

The women also set numerous personal best times over the weekend.  Fanni Kovacs took 2nd in the 100 and in the 200 Breaststroke (setting personal best times in both events), and 5th in the 100 Free.  Clara Bjorkegren was 1st in the 500 Free and 2nd in the 200 Free (setting personal best times in both events), and 3rd in the 100 Free.  Sofia Nascimento Tricoli finished 5th in the 200 Backstroke and 8th in the 100 Backstroke (setting personal best times for both events), and 3rd in the 100 Fly.  The women's relay team finished 4th in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (Cheatham, Kovacs, Tricoli, Bjorkegren), and 4th in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (Tricoli, Kovacs, Cheatham, Bjorkegren).

Coach Kirsten Sass said, "This meet was by far our most successful to date.  It was amazing to have so many swimmers finish in their personal best times, and a great way to finish up before break.  I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication that these athletes put into their training, and it was so rewarding to see it all come together."
