Swim Cats Compete in Sewanee Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. - On October 27-28, the Bethel University Men's and Women's Swim Team traveled to Sewanee, TN, to compete in the 22nd Annual Sewanee Invitational. In addition to Sewanee, the other teams present included:  Berry College, Brenau University, Emmanuel University, Life University, and University of Montevallo.

The competition began on Friday afternoon with notable performances by the men's 100 Yard Medley Relay (Martin Sener, Artem Dzun, Eric Edwards, and Jakub Loboda) finishing in 3rd place.  In the 50 Yard Fly, Jakub Loboda took 2nd, and Artem Dzun was 5th, Martin Sener was 9th in the 50 Yard Back, and in the 1650 Free, Akram Nejjar finished 5th for the men, and Clara Bjorkegren took 8th for the women.  

Saturday again saw strong performances by the men's relay (Sener, Dzun, Edwards, and Loboda), with a 5th place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, and a 3rd place in the 200 Yard Free Relay.   Jakub Loboda took 3rd place in the 50 Yard Free and in the 100 Yard Fly, Artem Dzun brought home a 2nd place in the 200 Yard Fly, and a 4th place in the 100 Yard Fly, Arkram Nejjar was 5th in the 500 Yard Free and 9th in the 200 Yard Free, Martin Sener took 7th in the 100 Yard Back and 5th in the 200 Yard Back, Eric Edwards was 10th in the 100 Yard Breast and 12th in the 100 Yard Free, and Eric Lane finished 17th in the 500 Yard Free and 19th in the 100 Yard Free.  On the women's side, Clara Bjorkegren took 10th in the 50 and 100 Yard Free, Fanni Kovacs was 9th in the 100 Yard Breast and 10th in the 200 Yard Breast, and Sofia Nascimento Tricoli was 9th in the 100 Yard Back, 11th in the 200 Yard Back, and 12th in the 100 Yard Fly.

Coach Kirsten Sass commented on the event and results. "This was the biggest meet we have competed in this season and was an excellent opportunity to race against a number of different teams. Once again, I was proud of how every swimmer performed, and to see the continued growth as a team. The next meet will be November 11th at UT Southern."
