Men’s Soccer Drops Tight Match at Cumberland University
LEBANON, Tenn. – A NAIA Top Twenty match-up lived up to its billing Wednesday afternoon in Lebanon.
The 16th ranked Bethel Wildcats, and the 12th ranked Cumberland University Phoenix fought until the very end with the Phoenix taking a 2-1 victory over the Cats.
Bethel dropped to 7-4-3 and 2-2 in the MSC.
Cumberland improved to 11-4-0 and 3-1-0.
CU took a 1-nil at the 64:45 mark. Less than five minutes later, Bethel's Alvin Oguta tied the game with an unassisted goal. The Phoenix won the match with a goal at the 72:04 mark.
The Cats had a 12-7 advantage in shots and a 6-3 margin in shots on goal.
It was the 15th meeting in the series. Bethel holds a 12-3 advantage in prior matchups. CU has won the last three meetings between the two.
The Cats return to action Wednesday traveling to Campbellsville. Play begins at 7 p.m. CT.
