Cats Host No.2 Freed-Hardeman Thursday in Crisp Arena

MCKENZIE, Tenn. -The Bethel Wildcats (16-4, 2-2) return home after splitting two games in Kentucky over the weekend and will face No. 2 Freed-Hardeman Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Crisp Arena.

 The Wildcats are 9-2 at home on the year and 166-61 all-time in the building since it opened in 2012.

The Lions (19-1, 4-0) are 9-1 on the road with their only loss at Life University in the third game of the season. FHU has won 16 in a row since that loss.

  • All passes must be approved through the Bethel University Sports Information office 24 hours prior to the game.

It will be the 86th meeting between the two programs which began back in 1975. FHU holds a 45-40 advantage and has won seven of the last ten meetings. The Lions hold a 10-6 margin in games played in McKenzie. Bethel won the last meeting 74-72 in a game at Crisp Arena last year.

The Wildcats average 80.8 and yield 72.9 points per game. The Cats shoot 43 percent from the floor while their opponents are at 41 percent. Bethel averages 32 percent from long distance while their foes are at 31 percent. The Wildcats shoot 68 percent from the free throw line. They outrebound their opponents 41-35 and average 12 assists per outing.

Chauncey Hughes III leads the Wildcats in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game. He leads the Cats in steals, assists, and in free throw attempts and made free throws. D J Starr averages 10.4 points per outing. Ethan Turner averages a team high seven rebounds and 10.3 points per game.

Jeff Britt is in his 26th season as Head Men's Basketball Coach at Bethel and his 37th overall at the collegiate level. A respected veteran of the game, Coach Britt has compiled an impressive career record of 553-392, placing him 10th among active NAIA Division I coaches in career wins.

The Lions shoot 50 percent from the floor. Opponents are at 37 percent. Freed shoots 33 percent in attempted three-pointers. They hold their opponents to 29 percent. The Lions shoot 68 percent from the free throw line. FHU has a 37-35 rebound margin and averages 14 assists per game. The Lions commit 13 turnovers per game and force their opponents into 22 per outing.   

Freed-Hardeman is led in scoring by Sam Powell at 13.1 points per game. He leads the Lions in three-point attempts and made treys. Phil Horton follows at 13.1 and also leads the Lions with 6.3 rebounds per game. Rico Sain pops in 10.8 points per game and leads the team in steals. Lane Lauderbaugh averages 10.6 tallies per game. Rodney Henderson leads the Lions in free throw attempts and made charity tosses.

Drew Stutts is in his seventh season as the head coach for the Freed-Hardeman University Lions. He has a career mark of 156-52.
