Wildcats Trim Mighty Oaks
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats won their eighth straight game Saturday beating the visiting Mighty Oaks of Oakland City (Ind.) 85-70.
Bethel moved to 9-1 while the Oaks dropped to 3-5 on the season.
Bethel is 4-1 at home while the Oaks remained winless on the road at 0-4. The Wildcats are 162-60 all time in Crisp Arena which opened in 2012.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-3 lead and led by as many as 15 in the first half. The Mighty Oaks fought back and trailed 43-38 at the half.
The Cats never relinquished the lead, but the Oaks hung tough only to see Bethel answer every time Oakland City made a charge.
Ethan Turner had 15 of his game high 22 points in the first half. Turner completed the double- doubles with ten rebounds. Chauncey Hughes III had 19 points and four steals. David Starr had nine points off the bench. He had three key baskets in the last eight minutes of the game. Joe Wimberly had key second half buckets and finished with eight points and four assists. Taylor Stovall came off the bench with six points and five boards. Jackson Hayes tossed in eight points and grabbed five boards.
Bethel shot 47 percent from the floor and hit seven three pointers in the game.
The Cats defense held Oakland City to just 38 percent from the floor and four made three pointers. K'Shawn Scott led the Oaks with 16 points.
Coach Jeff Britt commented, "We are pleased with this hard-fought win. Oakland City is a well-coached and very athletic squad. We had different players make big time plays down the stretch. We will enjoy the victory, watch the film, and keep learning how to improve."
The Cats are off until next Saturday when they travel to Cookeville to meet Tennessee Tech.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
