Wildcats Open Jim Reid Classic with Gritty 70–61 Win Over Midway

GEORGETOWN, Ky. -Bethel men's basketball arrived at the Jim Reid Classic with purpose, poise, and plenty to prove. On Friday evening, the Wildcats delivered, grinding out a 70–61 victory over Midway to claim game one of the classic and improve to 3–1 on the season.

From the opening tip, Bethel set the tone with disciplined defense and balanced scoring. The Wildcats built a 33–26 lead by halftime, powered by strong interior play and a relentless effort on the glass.

Brayden Nunnally and Ethan Turner led the offensive charge, each pouring in 16 points. Nunnally shot an efficient 6-of-10 from the field, including a pair of threes—while adding five rebounds and two assists. Turner matched his production with a 7-of-11 performance and knocked down a key three of his own.

In the backcourt, Chauncey Hughes III fueled the Wildcats' energy. He finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and nailed all five of his free throws—several coming in high-pressure stretches to keep Bethel in control.

Guard Jackson Hayes turned in one of the most complete performances of the night: 10 points, five boards, four assists, two blocks, and two steals. His presence was felt everywhere, especially during Bethel's second half runs.

Even with Midway attempting to rally behind the shooting of Amari Wales and Tim Fuller—who both scored 14 points—Bethel's defense remained steady. The Wildcats held the Eagles to just 34.8% shooting and forced 14 turnovers, turning those mistakes into 10 points.

Bethel won the rebounding battle in emphatic fashion, 52–34, including 13 offensive boards that helped generate 11 second-chance points. Their dominance in the paint (34–22) helped offset Midway's bench production and late-game push.

Despite a brief surge from Midway that trimmed the deficit to single digits, the Wildcats stayed composed. Timely ball movement, defensive stops, and late free throws secured the nine-point victory as Bethel closed out the opener with authority.

With game one in the books, the Wildcats turn their attention to Saturday's matchup as they continue their play in the Classic against West Virginia Tech. If today's performance is any indication, Bethel has arrived ready to compete—and ready to win.
