Cats Use Second Half Comeback to beat Cumberland University
LEBANON, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats hoped to make it three wins in a row as they traveled to Cumberland University Thursday to battle the Phoenix. The Cats used a strong second half comeback to do just that, winning 91-82.
The win avenged an earlier season 101-90 loss to the Phoenix in McKenzie.
After trailing 43-37 at the half, Bethel outscored CU 54-39 in the second half.
The Wildcats shot 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Phoenix 50-41.
A staggering difference in the game was Bethel's 51-10 advantage in bench points.
Jackson Hayes led the Wildcats with a career high 15 points. Joe Wimberly and Trevor Chatman had 12 points each. Chatman also had a team high seven rebounds. Connor Guthrie followed with 10 points.
The Cats won their third straight and moved to 15-8 and 3-5 in the MSC.
CU dropped to 10-12 and 3-4.
The Wildcats return home to face No.1 Freed-Hardeman Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Lions beat Campbellsville Thursday to move to 20-3 on the season.
Freed beat the Wildcats 90-77 in Henderson back on January 11.
