Wildcats Secure Much-Needed Conference Win Over Tigers
MCKENZIE, Tenn. The Bethel Wildcats came out firing and never looked back, earning a critical 72-64 conference victory over a solid Campbellsville Tigers squad. From the opening tip, the Wildcats displayed urgency and control, jumping to an early 7-0 lead, and stretching their advantage to 18 points by halftime. Their dominance on the boards and poise down the stretch sealed the deal in a well-rounded team effort.
First-Half Command
The Wildcats wasted no time setting the tone. Trevor Chatman was electric in the first half, scoring inside and from beyond the arc, finishing with a team-high 20 points. Ethan Turner anchored Bethel's defense and controlled the glass, grabbing 13 rebounds while chipping in 12 points.
Bethel's defensive pressure kept Campbellsville off balance early, forcing tough shots and limiting second-chance opportunities. The Wildcats held the Tigers to 34.4% shooting on the day, with much of their damage coming in the second half.
Resilient Finish
Campbellsville tried to mount a comeback behind Cobe Penny's game-high 22 points and Dalton Kramer's 15-point effort. Their bench added key contributions, particularly from Marcellus Vail, who scored 13 points. However, the Tigers couldn't overcome Bethel's consistent play.
The Wildcats weathered the Tigers' second-half surge with strong execution and timely plays. David Starr's energy off the bench was pivotal, contributing nine points and two assists. Akeyse Rice also provided a spark, scoring nine points on an efficient 4-of-5 shooting while adding five rebounds.
