Cats Comeback Falls Short Versus Lindsey Wilson

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats fought valiantly at home Thursday night but ultimately fell to Lindsey Wilson 80-73. A late and relentless second half effort fell short. After trailing by five points at the half and as many as 14 in the second half, the Cats clawed their way back, cutting the deficit to just seven by the final buzzer. Despite the loss, the team showed heart and determination in front of their home crowd.

First-Half Struggles

The game started off tough for the Cats, as Lindsey's aggressive defense and hot shooting from the charity stripe (77.7% on free throws) pushed the visitors to an early double-digit lead. The Cats struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 41.7% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc overall.

Second-Half Resilience

The second half saw the Cats play with renewed energy and purpose. David Starr led the charge with a standout performance, scoring a team-high 16 points, including 5-of-10 free throws, and adding four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Starr's effort on both ends of the court sparked the comeback attempt.

Connor Guthrie provided a crucial spark off the bench, hitting two three-pointers and scoring 12 points overall, while Tyler Neely remained efficient, contributing 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Defensively, the Cats tightened up, forcing Lindsey into tough shots and controlling the boards. Ethan Turner and Kendan Maddox were pivotal on the glass, combining for nine rebounds, while Maddox also added a crucial offensive rebound late in the game.

Too Little, Too Late

Despite their valiant efforts, the Cats struggled from the free-throw line, converting just 58.1% of their attempts. Missed opportunities at the stripe loomed large as the deficit proved too much to overcome. Turnovers and a lack of second-chance points also hampered their chances of completing the comeback.

In the end, Lindsey's Second Half dominance and balanced scoring attack proved insurmountable.

Notable Performances

The loss drops the Cats to a tough defeat but highlights their grit and determination. With adjustments and improved execution, this team has the potential to bounce back stronger in their next outing.

The Cats dropped to 12-8 and 0-5.

LWC moved to 14-5 and 2-2.

It was the ninth meeting between the two with LWC leading the series 5-4.

Bethel is 135-56 all-time in Crisp Arena.

The Wildcats return to action Saturday hosting Campbellsville at 3 p.m.
