Cats Fall to Patriots in Williamsburg
Williamsburg, Ky. –The Bethel Wildcats wrapped up their road trip Saturday in Williamsburg falling to the (RV) Patriots 80-63.
The Cats dropped to 12-7 overall and 0-4 in the MSC. It was Bethel's fourth straight loss. UC moved to 14-4 and 3-0 in the league.
It was the 8th meeting in the series with the Pats holding a 7-1 advantage.
Chauncey Hughes III led the way for the Cats, playing 24 minutes and scoring 12 points. Hughes' seven rebounds and two assists showed his all-around effort, but it wasn't enough to stem the tide. Ethan Turner followed with 11 points Trevor Chatman logged a team-high 36 minutes and grabbed a double-digit rebound total with 11 boards.
As a team, the Cats shot only 31.9% from the field, including a tough 33.3% from beyond the arc. They hit only 12 -of -22 from the free-throw line, which was a factor. Their 18 turnovers were also an issue, contributing to their inability to keep pace with the Pats, who capitalized on their mistakes. Defensively, the Cats fought hard, grabbing 48 rebounds, but their inability to stop key shooters or force timely turnovers limited their chances to claw back into the game.
UC shot 44 percent from the floor and hit seven three pointers.
UC's Anthony Johnson led all scorers with 20 points.
The Wildcats return home to host Lindsey Wilson Thursday in Crisp Arean. The action begins at 7:30 p.m. CT.
Bethel is 136-56 all-time in Crisp Arena.
It will be the ninth meeting between the two with series tied at 4-4. The teams split last year with each winning games on the road.
