Wildcats Beat Fisk on Opening Night of Centennial Bank Classic
MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The Bethel Wildcats returned to action Friday night on the opening night of the Centennial Bank Classic. The Cats beat the Fisk Bulldogs 84-71, running their record to 5-1 while Fisk dropped to 3-6.
The Wildcats shot 53 percent in the first half and led 41-30 at the half. The Cats outscored the visitors from Nashville 43-41 in the second half to win by thirteen.
Brennon Marsh led Bethel with 14 points and eight rebounds. Trevor Chatman and Kendan Maddox followed with 12 points each. Ethan Turner and Joe Wimberly scored ten points each.
Asa Hardyway led the Bulldogs with 25 points.
Bethel has a 35-21 advantage in rebounding.
The ability to get to the free throw line was a factor in the win. The Cats were 19-of-27 from the line.
Coach Jeff Britt was pleased with the win. "This was a good win for us. Fisk is a dangerous team. We had several guys step up and make big plays at key moments. I am really proud that we had only nine turnovers in the game. "
Georgetown beat Florida College in the opening game of the classic 83-74. The No. 7 ranked Tigers moved to 8-0 while the Flacons fell to 3-7.
On Saturday, the Tigers meet Fisk at 2 p.m. while the Cats close out the classic versus Florida College at 4 p.m.
