Cats Open Season with Home Victory over Harris-Stowe

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats opened their season Tuesday night in Crisp Arena with a 81-73 win over the visiting Harris-Stowe Hornets.

The Wildcats trailed 39-38 at the half but rallied to win by eight.

The Wildcats hit nine three-pointers and shot 45 percent from the field. Add a 48-30 rebound advantage to the formula and that all added up to a Wildcat victory.

The Cats shot 54 percent from the floor in the second half and outscored the visitors from St. Louis 43-34. 

Newcomer Daveonne Warfield came off the Wildcat bench and had 16 points. He nailed fout treys which sparked the Wildcats to the win. Ethan Turner had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kendan Maddox and Chauncey Hughes each tossed in 10 points.

Bethel's defense held the Hornets to 35 percent from the field.  

Coach Jeff Britt, in his 25th year as head coach of the Wildcats said, " I was pleased with our effort and  happy for our young men. Harris-Stowe is a good team plays really hard. We are a good mix of veterans and newcomers and we are looking at different rotations. It will take some time for us to mess together but I feel good about our ability to do that. We have some good early season challenges which will help us see where we are at."

The Wildcats are back in action Friday & Saturday in the Chick-fil-a Classic.

Games are at 6 and 8 p.m. Friday with games to follow Saturday at 2 and 4 p.m. Teams participating along with the Wildcats are Blue Mountain, Indiana -Columbus, and Southeastern Baptist. The Wildcats play Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m.
