Wildcats Hold on to Extend Winning Streak to Four
PIKEVILLE, Ky. –The Bethel Wildcats extended their winning streak to four with an 86-76 win at Pikeville Thursday night.
Bethel moved to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the Mid-South Conference. The Bears dropped to 11-9 and 7-7
The Wildcats shot a blistering 62 percent in the first half and led 49-29 at the break. Connor Guthrie led the Cats with 17 points in the half. Brennon Marsh followed with 11 points while Tyler Neely had 10 points in the first 20 minutes.
The second half was a different story as Bethel shot just 33 percent and saw their lead shrink to six late in the game. Several Wildcats delivered with clutch plays down the stretch to allow the Cats to prevail.
Bethel shot 48 percent in the game and hit six three-pointers. The Wildcats hit 18-of -23 free throw attempts.
The Bears shot 44 percent from the floor and hit six three-pointers. UPIKE hit 14-of-21 free throw tries.
The Wildcats had a 32-29 rebound advantage.
Guthrie had a team high 27 points. Neely finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Marsh had 11 tallies and a game high 10 rebounds. Querrion Gadson had 11 points and five assists.
Korbin Spencer had a game high 30 points for the Bears.
The Wildcats travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to meet Shawnee State. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. The Cats beat SSU 66-63 in McKenzie in mid-November. The series between the two is tied at 3-3.
