Bears Throttle Cats
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The visiting Shawnee State Bears used a 27-10 run in the last nine minutes of the first half to grab a 41-25 lead over the Wildcats at the break Saturday afternoon. The Cats could never close the gap in the second half and lost 73-54. It was Bethel's fifth loss in their last six games.
The Wildcats fell to 10-8 overall and 2-8 in the MSC. SSU improved to 9-7 and 3-6. The Wildcats are 5-4 at home on the year and 114-38 all-time in Crisp Arena.
The 54-point performance marked the third straight game Bethel has set a mark for fewest points in a game on the season.
Bethel shot just 32 percent from the floor and were able to connect on just four of 18 three-point attempts. SSU shot 43 percent and knocked down 10 three pointers.
Hayden Thomas had a career high 20-point performance for Bethel. Kam Rose finished with 11 points and a game and career high 17 rebounds. Bethel had a 41-38 rebound advantage.
Jaiden Guice had a team high 16 points for SSU.
Coach Jeff Britt said, "I am really disappointed in our play today. We are going to reevaluate and look at combinations to see what will work. We will need to turn things around in a hurry because this league is tough night in and night out."
The Wildcats return to action hosting Campbellsville Thursday night at 8 p.m.
