Cats Drop Second in a Row with Loss at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, KY. – The No. 16 Bethel Wildcats traveled to Georgetown, Kentucky Saturday for a MSC showdown facing the No. 14 Tigers of Georgetown College.

The Tigers scored first on a Darius Neal six-yard run. The touchdown capped off an eleven play 70-yard drive. Drew Rader nailed the point after to give Georgetown a 7-0 margin.

Georgetown threatened again but the Cat defense forced a field goal attempt which was missed. The Tigers led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Bethel's offense was unable to sustain drives and after a Brayden Johnson punt the Tigers were back on offense. Neal rushed for a 79-yard touchdown with 5:51 remaining in the half to give GC a 14-0 lead.

Later in the quarter, GC took a 17-0 lead on a Radar field goal.

The Cats closed out the half with a 62-yard drive on a 31-yard field goal by Oziel Hernandez as time expired. Georgetown had 235 yards in total offense in the half while Bethel managed just 106 yards.

The third quarter began with a Georgetown interception but again the Bethel defense bowed up to force a Rader short field goal which was missed.

After another Wildcat punt, the Tigers put together a five-play, 51-yard drive capped off with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Gehrig Slunaker to Clayton Davis with 3:13 left in the quarter. The Tigers led 24-3.

A scoreless fourth quarter saw the final score 24-3 with the Tigers winning.

Bethel dropped to 5-2 and 1-2 in the MSC. The Tigers moved to 5-2 and 3-0.

It was the 18th meeting between the two programs. GC has a 14-4 advantage in the series.

Georgetown had 379 total offensive yards. Bethel was held to a season low 184 yards in total offense. The Cats had 140 yards on the ground and 44 yards in the air. Dee Hines and Malik Brown had six total tackles each.

Neal, the reigning MSC Player of the week highlighted the Tigers individual stats with 163 yards on 23 carries.

Coach Michael Jasper said, "The better team won today. We have a lot of respect for Coach Oliver and his program from top to bottom. They out executed and out played us. I'm still proud of our young men and the way they played hard, but we are a young team that needs more experience and days like today teach some hard lessons."

The Cats are back in action Saturday at home hosting Campbellsville at 1 p.m. It will be Homecoming for the Wildcats.
