A native of Elgin, Illinois, Kerber's collegiate baseball journey spanned six years, playing for multiple institutions including Morton Community College and the University of Northwestern Ohio. He demonstrated versatility on the field, primarily playing catcher and third base, while showcasing his ability to play every position.
Kerber's accomplishments as a player earned him NJCAA Region 4 All Area and Skyway All Conference awards during his JUCO years. He continued to hone his skills at D1 Tennessee Tech and later in the NAIA at the University of Northwestern Ohio. Additionally, he gained valuable experience playing in the MLB Draft League's inaugural season and the Prospect League.
As a coach, Kerber has made a significant impact, most recently serving as the Graduate Assistant Coach at LSU Shreveport, where the team achieved an undefeated National Championship title. This experience, combined with his tenure as a head coach in the Dairyland Collegiate League and coaching 16U and 18U teams for USA Prime Northern Illinois, has prepared him well for his next role. Kerber is known for his player-centric approach, focusing on development and fostering a positive team culture.
With a strong educational foundation, including an Associate's degree in Business from Morton Community College, a Bachelor's degree in Specialized Studies Business from the University of Northwestern Ohio, and a forthcoming Master's degree in Nonprofit Administration from LSU Shreveport, Kerber is set to join Bethel University, bringing his passion, expertise, and winning mentality to the team.
Coach Thompson commented, "Cy Kerber is a dedicated baseball coach with a rich playing background and a proven track record of success. He will fit in perfectly with our staff and squad. We look forward to him being a huge part of our success."
Coach Serber stated, "I'm beyond excited to step into this new chapter as a college coach. It's an incredible opportunity under Coach Thompson to continue to learn and grow. I'm ready to bring passion, purpose, and a winning mindset to this program."
