Bat Cats Close out Home Schedule Sunday with Loss to Cumberland

MCKENZIE, Tenn. -The Bethel Wildcats closed out the home portion of their schedule Sunday afternoon with a single game against the Cumberland University Phoenix.

It was the last home game for seniors, Garrett Taylor, Todd Ethridge, Adreil Vega, Klayton Wright, Zachary Zimmer, Jaxon Hill, Mathew Reynolds, and Matthew Ray.

The seniors were honored in ceremonies following the games played on Friday night.

Cumberlands leading hitter Wilser Then hit his 13th homer of the season leading off the second to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.

The visitors added two more runs in the third to up their margin to 3-0.

Cumberland added two more runs in the fourth as Aiden McDonald hit a two-run homer to give the Phoenix a 5-0 lead.

Galvin Sims put the Wildcats on the board with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fifth. The Cats added another run on an infield error by the Phoenix to trail 5-2 after five innings.

The Wildcats scored again on a solo shot by Adriel Vega in the eighth inning. The Cats trailed 5-3 after eight.

Cumberland's Dylan LaRue led off the ninth with a homer to give CU a 6-3 margin. The Phoenix scored another run on an RBI single off the bat of Cole Freeman to lead 7-3. Cumberland put the game out of reach after Charlie Rocca slugged a three-run homer. The Phoenix scored two more runs on a Bethel error to lead and win 12-3.

Cumberland out hit the Wildcats 11-5.

Mateo Santos picked up the Phoenix victory while Presto Gentry suffered the Wildcat loss.

The Wildcats dropped to 10-26 overall and 4-11 in the MSC.

Cumberland improved to 21-24 and 8-7.

The Wildcats close out their regular season Friday and Saturday in a three-game weekend conference series at Lindey Wilson.

The Cats lead the overall series 15-6 and have beaten the Blue Raiders 11 straight times.

Going into a non-conference home game against # 5 Johnson College on Tuesday the Raiders are 17-26 and 7-8 in the MSC.
