Patriots Sweep Cats in MSC Series

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – After coming from behind Thursday night and winning a rain delayed five-hour marathon 14-7, the Cumberlands Patriots used that momentum to sweep the Bethel Wildcats Friday in a doubleheader at Wildcat Park.

The No. 8 Pats won 15-7 and 17-7 to sweep the series and move to 29-6 overall and 11-1 in the MSC. The Wildcats dropped to 10-19 and 4-5.

In game one the Pats pushed across five runs on three hits in the top of the second. The Cats cut the deficit to 5-1 in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot off the bat of Garrett Taylor.

Juan Diego Ramos homered in the bottom of the third. Garrett Taylor singled, Adriel Vega scored an error by the first baseman, and the Cats trailed 5-3 after three innings.

The Cats stayed close behind the relief pitching of Christian Wilkes who allowed just two hits and no runs in three and two thirds' innings.

The Pats added more runs in the top of the sixth on back-to-back homers by Dariel Castillo and Derick Andiarena. The Pats added eight more runs in the inning to break the game open with a 15-3 lead. The other blow came off the bat of Bryce Turner who slugged a three-run homer.

Bethel's Zayden McCaslin hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Patriot lead to 15-5.

Bethel's Cade Pilkinton slugged a two-run homer in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Pats won by eight. UC outhit the Wildcats 13-11.

Game two saw the Pats score four runs in the top of the first. Castillo, Pedro Vasquez, and Johnboy Rittenhouse all homered to give Cumberlands the early margin.

The Wildcats put a run on the board in the second on a sacrifice fly off the bat of CJ Lattimore.

The Pats struck again with six runs in the third to up their lead to 10-1.

RBI singles by Galvin Sims and Tyler Webb cut the deficit to 10-3. Evan Cardwell drove in two more runs with a one out triple.

UC scored two runs in the fourth to take a 12-5 lead. They added a single run in the fifth to take a 13-5 lead. Two more runs in the sixth upped the Pats lead to 15-5.

Taylor drove in a run in the seventh to make it 15-6 but two more runs in the eighth by the Patriots increased the visitors lead to 17-6.

Lattimore drove in a run in the eighth, but it wasn't enough to avoid the ten run rule after seven.

UC outhit the Wildcats 19-10 in the game.

The Cats return to action Tuesday at home hosting Blue Mountain in a single game at noon.
