Wildcats Dominant in Run-Rule Victory Over Georgetown
MCKENZIE, TN – The Bethel University Wildcats (10-16, 4-2) showcased a clinical offensive performance on Sunday afternoon, dismantling the Georgetown Tigers 13-3 in a game shortened to seven innings.
The Wildcats' lineup was relentless from the jump, scoring in six of the seven innings played. The power display was led by Adriel Vega and Cade Pilkinton, who both cleared the fences to spearhead a 10-hit attack. While the bats were hot, Bethel's plate discipline was equally impressive, drawing 11 walks to keep constant pressure on the Georgetown pitching staff.
On the mound, Alex Sterling earned the win, grinding through six innings and allowing just three runs while scattering eight hits. Christian Wilkes came on in the seventh to slam the door, striking out the side in a dominant relief appearance to sealing the conference victory.
Wildcat Offensive Leaders • Cade Pilkinton: 2-for-3, HR, 3 RBI, 4 Runs, 2 BB • Adriel Vega: 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 3 Runs • Evan Cardwell: 2-for-2, 3 RBI, 3 BB • Galvin Sims: 1-for-4, 2 RBI.
Bethel Head Coach Rusty Thompson praised his team's approach at the plate and their ability to capitalize on every mistake made by the opposition. "I'm really proud of the discipline our guys showed today," said Thompson. "We didn't just wait for them to give us bases; we took them. When you combine 11 walks with the power we saw from Adriel and Cade, it puts a lot of stress on a defense. Alex [Sterling] gave us exactly what we needed on the mound, competed through some tough counts, and let our offense do the work. This is the kind of complete team win we need to keep building momentum in conference play."
The Cats swept the series over the weekend and dropped the Tigers to 8-20 and 1-8.
The Wildcats return to action Friday and Saturday playing host to Cumberlands (KY). The Cats and Patriots play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. The squads play a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
