Cats Split Doubleheader to Open Season
MCKENZIE, Tenn. – The Bethel Wildcats opened the 2024 campaign Friday hosting the Culver-Stockton Wildcats.
Culver-Stockton took game one 6-4.
The CSU Wildcats scored a single run in the first and five in the top of the sixth.
Bethel's Jose Olmeda drove in a run in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly.
Bethel rallied in the bottom of the seventh with three runs. Jared Hall drove in a run and later scored on a CSU error. Zach Griffith scored on a Wildcat balk. The rally fell two runs short as CSU held on for the win.
Culver-Stockton outhit Bethel 6-3. Both teams committed two errors.
Tyler Proctor was charged with the loss. Anthony Ribes picked up the win.
Game two saw the Cats outslug CSU to gain the split. A five run first and a four run sixth highlighted an 11-hit attack in the 11-8 Bethel victory. Culver-Stockton also rapped out 11 hits.
Bethel's Hall had two hits and drove in two runs. Griffith had two hits and drove in two runs. Noah Foster was a huge star with two hits and four RBI's. Adriel Vega drove in two teammates. Jose Diego Ramos and CJ Thomas each had two hits.
Alexis Rodriguez picked up the Bethel win.
The teams square off again for a noon doubleheader Saturday.
