Matias Named SSAC Player of the Week
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Tyler Tungate of Faulkner (Ala.) was named SSAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week and Gabriel Matias of Bethel (Tenn.) was named SSAC Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
The awards are based on performance for the week of April 17-23.
Tyler Tungate (JR – P – Downey, Calif.)
· Tungate is the second Faulkner pitcher to win the award this year
· He tossed a complete-game three-hitter v. William Carey, striking out 10 and walking only one in his lone start
· The junior is 8-0 on the year with 50 strikeouts in 54.2 innings and a 3.62 ERA
Gabriel Matias (SR – OF – Dominican Republic)
· He is the first Wildcat to win the award this season
· In a SSAC sweep for the Wildcats, he hit .571 and slugged 1.071, while totaling eight hits, five extra-base hits and five RBIs
· He went 7-for-11 with three doubles, one homer and five RBIs over the final two games v. Loyola
· On the season, he is hitting .361 and slugging .624 with 20 extra-base hits
