Bat Cats Sweep Series in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS, La. –The Bethel Wildcats completed their three-game weekend series sweep over the Loyola Wolfpack Saturday with an 11-7 win in New Orleans. Bethel had won 5-1 and 18-1 Friday. The 18 runs along with 24 hits in game two Friday were season highs for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats picked up right where they left off Friday scoring runs in the first five innings of Saturday's game.
Bethel scored a run on a wild pitch in the first. That was followed by a Jack Surber sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
Gabriel Matias slugged a three-run homer in the second to give Bethel a 5-0 margin.
Colby Poston drove in a run in the third to make it 6-0.
Kendall Adkisson hit a homer in the fourth and the Wildcats led 7-0. Loyola put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
The Wildcats got one of those runs back with a Shea Nickias RBI double in the fifth.
The Wolfpack rallied with four runs in the fifth to cut the Wildcat lead to 8-7 after five.
The Wildcats pushed across two runs in the seventh on a Poston two-run double. They added a run in the eighth on a Zach Crocker RBI double to lead 11-7.
Bethel finished with 13 hits in the game. Steven White picked up the Wildcat victory.
Bethel left the Crescent City at 25-19 and 11-10 in the SSAC. Loyola is 21-29 and 7-14.
Bethel closes out their regular season next weekend in Pulaski with a three- game series against the RedHawks. The teams play a doubleheader Friday at noon and a single game Saturday at noon.
