Bat Cats Drop Home Twin Bill to Mobile
MCKENZIE, Tenn. –The Bethel Wildcats dropped both games of their doubleheader against (RV) Mobile Saturday. They lost a heartbreaker in game two losing 10-5 in extra innings. That game followed a 3-2 loss in game one. Mobile won two of the three games in the weekend series.
In game one the Wildcats led after a Jack Surber two run homer in the second inning. Mobile scored three runs in the fifth. Mason Schoettlin slammed a game tying two run homer. J.T. Peddrick's sacrifice fly gave the Rams the lead at 3-2. Lukas Young limited the Wildcats to just four hits and picked up his fifth win of the season. Brady Jones held Mobile to four hits through six innings but suffered the loss.
Game two saw the Cats score two runs in the first inning on only one hit. Two walks and a wild pitch by Mobile starter Braxton Rhodes aided the Wildcats. The Rams went long ball in the top of the sixth with solo shots by J.T. Peddrick and Cory Wheaton to tie the game at two. The Wildcats retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. Zach Crocker doubled to lead off the inning. Jack Surber drove in courtesy runner Zach Buehler to give Bethel the lead at 3-2. The lead was short-lived as Cody Waters socked a solo homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game again. Colin Roberts drove in Lucas Riddick with a single in the seventh to give Bethel a 4-3 lead. The see-saw battle continued as Mobile's Chris Hopballe drove in two runs with a two-out double in the top of the eighth to give the Rams a 5-4 margin. The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the inning. After a lead-off triple by Christian Padin, Colby Poston delivered a single driving in Padin to tie the game at five. The game remained tied until the top of the tenth inning. The Rams scored five runs on four hits in the inning. The big hit in the inning was a three run triple by Waters. Cody Campo picked up the win while Dakeith Burton was charged with the loss.
The Wildcats dropped to 20-17 overall and 7-8 in the SSAC. Mobile left town at 29-12 and 12-7.
The Wildcats travel to Lindenwood-Belleville Tuesday with action beginning at 1 p.m.
