Track Cats Have Good Meet at Samford
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Bethel University Men's and Women's Track teams competed in the Samford Open Saturday and had several solid performances.
On the men's side, Hendrix Calhoun broke the school record in the shot-put surpassing Bethel Head Football Coach Michael Jasper's previous mark with a 13.25. Lee Steakley threw 12.12 and Hayden Jenkins an 11.71.
On the running side, Stetson Childress continued his impressive indoor season with an 8:53 in the 3k. Braden Wallace and Ariel Devoto posted personal records in the 5k with a 16:11 and 16:14. Wallace bounced back with a 4:54 in the mile. Devoto came back with a 2:03 in the 800. Cedrion and Benard Koech both competed in the mile race as well with Cook posting a 4:47 and Koech a 4:49. Cook came back with a 9:36 in the 3k. In the 400, John Jennings posted a season best 53.24. In the 200, Justice Bishop posted a 23.68 with Jamal Stiger posting a 24.60. In the 60-meter dash, Bishop posted a 7.35 with Stiger posting a 7.54. Princeton Rogers posted the fastest Wildcat time of the day with a 7.31.
On the women's side, Kaeli Sain posted another great mark in the 60m with a 7.92. In the mile, Monserrat Serrano ran a 5:56 with Addison Roberson posting a 6:35. Serrano came back and posted a 2:40 in the 800.
Coach Bandon Kilburn commented, "We had a really solid final regular season meet. I am proud of the effort we have put in to get to this point and have several conference qualifiers who will compete next weekend. We have a quick turnaround and will be in Louisville for the Mid-South Conference championships Friday."
