MAYFIELD, Ky. (Tuesday, September 30, 2008) - The Bethel College men's soccer team won an extremely physical battle on the road and claimed a 3-1 victory of the Cougars of Mid-Continent University. Bethel moves to 2-1 in the TranSouth Conference good for third place, while MCU moves to 0-2 in conference play and sixth place.

Bethel got the lead early as Armando Orozco volleyed a kick past the Cougar's goalkeeper David Etale. The play came off a corner kick that was sent into the mixer and headed out. From there, Orozco volleyed the ball out of the air and in. The teams played a defensive and rough first half. Bethel took the 1-0 lead to the break, but everyone in attendance knew that it was going to be a battle in the second half.

Bethel's Armando Orozco vollyed the ball out of the air and past the MCU goalkeeper to give Bethel a 1-0 lead early in the contest.

Rough play continued as four yellow cards were handed out in the first 18 minutes of the second half. MCU made things even more interesting as they scored in the 71st minute. The Cougars Freddy Okello took a pass from Wayne McCarron and was able to lob it over Bethel goalkeeper Chaz Dachenhaus. Dachenhaus made two saves as the Cougars could only manage three shots on goal in the game. Eight minutes later in the 79th minute, the Wildcats' Mario Vila Boa took a feed from Robert Burger and got behind the defense and pitched the ball just over the reach of Etale for a 2-1 lead. Boa wasn't finished and scored the goal of the afternoon. A Cougar back played the ball to backwards the goaltender Etale as Boa pressured. Etale's outlet kick was weak and Boa pounced on the ball, caught Etale out of position and lobbed the ball over his head for the goal. Bethel was able to hold MCU at bay for the remaining eleven minutes for the 3-1 win.
